Strong Hold Gel | 236mL / 8 fl.oz.

  • Creates a protective cast that locks in your natural curl pattern with long-lasting hold
  • Proven to reduce frizz by up to 92% for smooth, beautifully defined curls
  • Resists 90% humidity for up to 48 hours to keep your style intact in any weather
  • Layers seamlessly over your All-in-One styler or favourite leave-in conditioner for locked-in moisture and extreme hold

After applying the All-in-One (Step 3) or your favourite leave-in, smooth the gel into your hair, working in sections for best results. Use a brush to help distribute the product evenly in each section for max smoothness. Style as you normally would. Air dry or diffuse.

  • Apply to soaking wet hair: The Strong Hold Gel works best when applied to very wet hair. The water helps distribute the product evenly, prevents stickiness, and locks in maximum moisture before the cast sets.
  • Layer for moisture: Because strong-hold gels focus on locking in your style, they pair beautifully with a moisturizing base. Apply the All-in-One (Step 3) or your favourite leave-in for hydration, before applying the gel to lock it in.
  • Work in sections: Apply the gel section by section. This guarantees even coverage and prevents certain areas from being weighed down while others are left frizzy.

Try different styling methods:

  • Praying hands: Smooth the gel down the hair using flat palms to tame frizz and elongate curls.
  • Rake-and-scrunch: Rake the gel through with your fingers for distribution, then scrunch upward to encourage tight curl formation.
  • Finger-coil: Take stubborn strands and twirl them around your finger with a bit of gel to force definition.
  • Don’t touch while drying: This is the golden rule for a flawless cast. Let your hair dry completely (whether air-drying or using a diffuser). Touching your hair while the gel is setting will break the cast prematurely and introduce frizz.
  • Scrunch out the crunch: Once your hair is 100% dry, gently scrunch your curls to break the stiff gel cast and reveal soft, bouncy, defined hair. Pro tip: Rub a few drops of hair oil (like our Elixir Oil) onto your palms, or use a satin scarf/T-shirt to do this—it minimizes friction and adds incredible shine.
  • Refresh with water, not more gel: On days two and three, you usually don't need to add more gel. Strong-hold formulas can often be reactivated simply by spritzing your hair with a little water and gently scrunching.

It all depends on what your goals are! Both gels can be used by all curl types and will give you a different look:

Our Irish Sea Moss Gel is considered a “medium hold” and creates a flexible, breathable, non-tacky seal on the hair. It is great for those looking for some extra definition with a moveable, touchable hold.

Our Strong Hold Gel is designed for 48-hour wear for definition, frizz reduction, and resistance to humidity. This is the formula you want if hold is an absolute must for your curl goals.

Yes, you can expect some level of a cast! How strong that cast feels will depend on a few things:

Your hair's thickness and density.
How much gel you apply.
The product(s) you use underneath.

For example, if you pair this with our All-in-One Styler as a base, and apply a generous amount of Strong Hold Gel, most curlies will experience a strong cast. Remember, this temporary cast is designed to lock in your curl pattern while your hair dries—so embrace it at first! Once your hair is completely dry, you can easily break the cast to reveal soft, bouncy curls that last!

Once your hair is fully dry, simply "scrunch" using the Elixir Oil or Mender to break the cast. The crunch disappears, but the definition and hold stay.

Yes! Our Strong Hold Gel is great for a mid-day or next-day refresh.
Apply a small amount to dry or lightly damp hair to redefine curls, smooth frizz, and boost hold.

Once your hair is completely dry, gently scrunch your curls to break the cast, cupping your hands and squeezing upwards towards the scalp. This releases the “crunch” and leaves your curls soft, bouncy, and defined.

For best results:
• Make sure your hair is 100% dry before scrunching
• Use gentle scrunching motions to avoid disturbing your curl pattern
• Use an oil like our Elixir Oil at this stage to help minimize frizz, lock in moisture and add some extra shine.

Understanding Your Curl Type

WAVY

The loosest of all curl types, wavy hair forms soft bends that typically create an ‘S’ shape. While it’s usually less prone to dryness than curlier types, waves still benefit from lightweight moisture and frizz control.

CURLY

Tighter and more defined, curly hair forms in spirals or ringlets that range in size, from loose loops to tighter corkscrews. This curl type often experiences more dryness and frizz, so it thrives with added moisture and definition.

KINKY-COILY

The tightest curl type, kinky-coily hair can form dense corkscrews, zig-zags, or a mix of both. More prone to dryness and breakage, this texture craves rich & nourishing formulas to support definition and hydration.
